| Tropicana Field, originally named the Florida Suncoast Dome and the Thunderdome, includes an Astroturf field and all-dirt base paths. The facility saw a $85 million renovation project to add 319,000 square feet of space. While always built for baseball, the Florida Suncoast Dome became the Thunderdome in 1993 with the arrival of the expansion Tampa Bay Lightning National Hockey League franchise. The Lightning played in the Thunderdome for three years. After every Devil Rays win, the roof of the dome is illuminated in the color orange. The venue adheres to baseball's traditions with the bullpens situated on the field (the Devil Rays bullpen resides along the right field line). The seats behind the backstop are only 50 feet from home plate. Other amenities include the Cuesta-Rey Cigar Bar, the first in-stadim cigar bar within a Major League Baseball stadium. Ebbets Field was an influence in the design of Tropicana Field. The asymmetrial outfield dimensions mimmick those of the Brooklyn Dodgers former home. The eight-story-high entrance rotunda was designed based upon the blueprints from the 1913 built rotunda of Ebbets Field. |

Protracted negotiations with their last four No. 1s precluded the players from making their pro debuts the years they were drafted. |
That includes 6'9" gasmas-ter righty Jeff Niemann from Rice, last year's fourth overall pick who had yet to come to terms as of late January. If and when he's brought into the fold, he'll be hustled through the system for a likely 2006 big league bow.

Carl Crawford is on!y 23, but he's one of the rare players who can change a game with his bat, glove or wheels. Only nine players have ever paired 20 home runs with 50 stolen bases — names such as Henderson, Morgan, Brock, Sandberg and Bonds among them — but Crawford is a decent bet to be the 10th. That could come as soon as this season.
